The luck perk is available through forging on rings, belts, and boots.
It can also be found on four unique items from magic chests: Prospector's Gear (armor), Royal Flush (weapon), Prospector's Touch (gauntlets), and Prospector's Treads (boots).
The Easter Festival of 2017 also came with three unique luck items: Hareband (helmet), Fluffy Fists (gauntlets), and Lucky Pouch (belt). The Lucky Pouch is the only item with two luck perks.
So far, it is possible to wear seven lucky items with a total of eight luck perks. There are no lucky capes or pauldrons yet.
The theoretical maximum for a single luck perk is 17%.
Based on official information provided by Flaregames developer Lisa in a community FAQ (source), the luck perk does not work as previously assumed. The existence of an artificial 80% cap has been denied officially.
Diminished chance to failEdit
Luck perks are not applied to the chances to successfully open a chest, but to the chances to fail by finding a skull. Therefore, luck perks decrease the chance to fail, which indirectly increases the chance of success. The chances for success are always 100% minus the chance to fail.
For example, the chance to successfully open the first chest is set at 75%. A 10% luck perk does not increase those 75% by 10%. Instead, the luck perk is applied to the 25% chance to find a skull. Therefore, it decreases those 25% by 10%, resulting in a 22.5% chance to fail (25% * (100% - 10%). With this, the chance of success rises to 77.5% (100% – 22.5%).
Perk by perk applicationEdit
Unlike other percentage-perks, luck perks are not added up. Instead, they are applied perk by perk.
For example, two perks with 12% and 8% respectively do not decrease the chance to fail by 20%. Instead, the first perk decreases the chance by 12% and the second perk decreases the resulting chance by 8%. The calculation here would be (1 – 12%) x (1 – 8%) = 88% x 92% = 80.96%. This means that the chance to fail is reduced to 80.96% of the original value.
Base chances to failEdit
For the first chest, the base chance to fail is set to 25%. For all other chests, the chance is what one would expect: the number of the remaining skull chests divided by the number of the remaining treasure chests. Therefore, unless gems are used, the base chances for failure are:
- 25% for the first chest
- 60% for the second chest
- 75% for the third chest
The full formula for the chance to fail is:
Base chance to fail x (1 - [1st Luck Perk %] / 100) x (1 - [2nd Luck Perk %]/ 100) x ... x (1 - [n-th Luck Perk %]/ 100)
The chance for success is always:
1 – chance to fail
The results in percentage (%) of each chance to find a reward in 1st, 2nd and 3rd chests are calculated having an average on each item of the total Luck Perk (left column of the table).
